Emmrod Mountaineer combo

Emmrod Mountaineer combo

I’ve been wanting one of these since I first learned about them on the NW Kayak Anglers forum. The Emmrod. Not your grandfathers pocket fisherman, the Emmrod is built to fish.

The Emmrod features a coiled steel rod that attaches to a fairly standard looking cork handle. With 10 rods made for everything from crappie to tarpon, there’s a combination for whatever you want to fish for. Most of the handle options accept both spinning and casting reels, you just need to choose the rod that matches the target fish and the reel you’re using. And they’re inexpensive to boot! The coiled steel rods vary in price starting at $15 and topping out at $50. You could have every option for less than $250 – that’s probably less expensive than your salmon fishing rod alone.

Better yet is the space saving. With every optional rod, you can pack up all of it in a grocery bag if you needed too! Fully assembled, the Emmrod is less than two feet long. You could easily pack a handle and a few rods into a glove box, carry on luggage, or a backpack. Check out all the various options, stories, and video at Emmrod.com

Unfortunately I’m not going to be able and rush out to use the Emmrod. The Mountaineer combo I got for my birthday came with the wrong rod attachment. Their spinning rod seems decently built for small lake fishing, but it came with a casting rod. Of course, I suppose I could easily throw one of my Abu’s on, I’m more curious to see what their service is like.

I’d like to see how a sturgeon would handle with one of those rods. Rockfish jigging would be simple….straight down.

[…] since I never heard back from Emmrod about the rod confusion (see Here’s something we hope you really like), I stopped by the Emmrod booth at a near by gift show. I was greated by Randy of Emmrod Northwest. […]
