Portland Sportsmen Show

This last week was the PDX Sportsmen Show. I only managed to make a very quick run-through before having to make appearances elsewhere.

I know I missed talking to Darin from Outer Escape and Trevor from Red’s Guide Service & Wright & McGill. Trevor was busy talking, and I’m not one to interrupt business. Darin was out grabbing lunch and we just couldn’t meet up.

Marvin from Marvin’s Guide Service was one of the first guys I ran into. He had found himself some deals, had been there all day, and was still going at it. When I left a few hours later, his truck was still in the parking lot.

I found myself a few deals on saltwater jigs and some fly tying materials from Red’s Fly Shop. I managed to find the Next Adventure booth with Brian from NWKA showing off some Ocean Kayaks. I showed the guys there the YakAttack GearTracs that I had been playing with this last week as well. I also managed to bump into Gary Loomis again, and thanked him for the interview that we recorded for Kayak Fishing Radio over the summer. His new rods were a hit at the show, and they’ve got a lot of work ahead of them.

Two of the coolest things I saw were some awesome PVC pipe clips made here in Oregon, and LeeLock Anchor Systems. The LeeLock caught my eye right away because I had been building a drift anchor rig for my Diablo Chupacabra. Their fairleads are uniquely awesome. I liked that they were lightweight aluminum, and they offered up gravity drop cleat that, while hard for me to get used to, was quite solid. If only he had something small enough for my kayak anchor build, I would have likely left with one of their fairleads. Hopefully that’ll be something “coming soon.”

Stable Solutions made the PVC clips that I thought were just way too awesome. While they can be used for just clipping PVC to something that they are bolted to, I liked the idea of bolting two clips together and then having a hinged connection. I guess the excitement just came from playing with PVC last week too…. But I think the clips have a good future in my rigging needs…

That’s all I got for you at the moment. I’m pretty much just killing time while tomorrow’s video finishes processing.
