Tough Season so far

While I haven’t been fishing all that much this year, you don’t have to be out there to know that things have been tough for the last few months. We’ve had a lot of rain around the Portland area, and that’s had rivers running high and muddy. Spring Salmon season is right now, and the catch counts are very low. Today is the last day to fish for salmon on the lower Columbia River, but Oregon and Washington are meeting this afternoon to extend the season.

While the Willamette River is expected to see about 100,000 chinook, the muddy conditions have made angling nearly impossible.

Even fishing in the local lakes is tough. Water temps are still in the mid-40s at most lakes, so convincing fish to bite, even trout, is tough.

Hopefully April will clean up, get temps and water flows more ideal…
