Winter Organization

I’m a mess. Totally. It’s nothing new. I have fishing gear in at least four rooms in the house plus the garage. Both cars have stuff too. Oh, and the carport. Even behind the garage on the patio. Everywhere. Ask my mother, though, and she’ll tell you I’ve always been this way.

I try though. Cleaning, for me, turns into a method of re-arraigning madness and clutter. A post over at YakAngler recently got me thinking about better organization. I know I could use it. But first I’ve gotta start with the cleanup process.

Most recently I picked up some racks from KayakFishingFever.com. These Moose Racks are strong and super easy to install. To help with the clutter in the garage, I moved two of my kayaks out to the carport. They’re still protected from the weather, and actually easier to load up on the car. The Moose Racks are hollow stainless steal tubes, so I’m running a cable lock through the tubes and scuppers on the kayaks to keep them secure. By getting the kayaks out of my tiny garage, I’m now able to move around in there and I’m closer to the possibility of getting my convertible inside… maybe…

But there is still a lot of work to do in the garage. Of course, it didn’t help that the place came with 30 gallon-sized cans of paint that I have to dispose of still. Bunch of other crap was left behind too – tile pieces, drywall scraps, porn, old light fixtures and more. The garage remains giant work in progress.

The office has also seen a lot of work. The long but narrow room meant my desks had to go, but I still needed a place for my computer, to do my fly tying, to build rods, and all the stuff that goes with it. I ended up makings some wall mounted desks. The narrower work stations left plenty of room to walk around, and space for all the crap that will accumulate on them. Fortunately the room also has several built-in cabinets for the lesser used items. There is also plenty of track left above the desk-areas for another shelve–good for more storage and some improved lighting. My dad also built me some pretty sweet ceiling mount rod racks so I can keep my gear more secure in the house, without them getting in the way.

I just did an office cleanse/purge as well and I must say your work here is pretty impressive. You definitely got me beat!
