Recycled Fish 24-Hour Fish-a-Thon

September 4th, 2012 · No Comments

Sadly I’ll be missing out on the Recycled Fish Fish-a-thon again this year. Things are just not aligning for me to get out and fish. So, I thought I might point out a couple of teams that you might help me support.

First up is Team Broken Oar. They are fishing the lake I pretty much grew up on–Lake Geneva, outside of Seattle, WA. I spent a ton of time fishing on this lake. My first kiss, oh so many years ago, was on the lil fishing dock. I camped out on my friend’s family property across from the county park. I learned just how many Taco Bell bean burritos a person could eat. I watched my sister and her dog swim from one side to the other, repeatedly. Oh the memories.

Team Broken Oar is fishing on and for Lake Geneva. They’re cleaning up the mono-filament hanging from the trees, the styrofoam worm cups that always litter the shores, and more. Last time I was there I noticed two introduced and possibly invasive species in the lake that I had never seen there before: Largemouth Bass and Red Eared Sliders.

Secondly, Team Space Coast(coast to coast) in Titusville, Florida. More friends of mine will be taking advantage of the new saltwater rules in the Recycled Fish 24 Hour Fish-a-thon and tackling redfish and trash on the famous Indian River Lagoon. Best part is, these guys will be fishing from kayaks! I fished with Chuck Levi when I was in Florida, and I know they’ll get into the fish and the trash that they pick up along the way.

Please, I urge you to support one, or both of these teams with a monetary donation. Your donation is completely tax deductible and will be split between Recycled Fish and the teams’ charity of choice. It doesn’t take a big donation, just a lil help can go a long ways
