Hello, February

I’ve been unable to get out and fish much this month, and let it almost slip right by me! Oregon Fish and Wildlife has set the 2011 Sturgeon and Spring Chinook season. Salmon sounds decent this year, and the Willamette River quota for sturgeon is very close to being met, despite that only one weekend of fishing has been open for them.

Had a small break in the winter to get out and fish the other day though. Here’s the video to go right along with it

The fishing, as you can see, was phenomenal. That wasn’t even close to half the fish on the day, and some of the other guys out there had a great day as well. Unfortunately my landing back at the beach was worse than my launch. I allowed a big wave to topple me over, and I swam/body surfed back in. In the end I lost my box of jigs (5# of lead), a few tools, and broke my fly rod as it tumbled inside the kayak.

Also, sadly, I forgot that the minimum size of lingcod is 22″, not the “26 or 28 inches” I was thinking in my head.

I use a waterproof Kodak Playsport camera for my HD video, and my iPhone when I do live Internet video feeds.
